“Swan song”

11 Dec

This episode for me wasn’t the greatest but Rachel singing made it so wonderful.

After Marley fainting during sectionals, the New Directions lost. Their season is over. Coach Sylvester takes advantage of this opportunity and takes the choir room away from the glee team.

In New York, Rachel gets invited to the exclusive winter showcase. She is the second freshman ever invited which causes great pressure. After a great dance off singing “All That Jazz” with her teacher, she realizes that she may not be a great dancer but a great singer. She then decides to sing for the showcase.

Kurt attempt to talk to NYADA head principal to see if he got a chance to enter in the spring. With her answer, he is disappointed.

Back in McKinley, all the glee members go their own way and try to find a place to fit in. This worries Finn which tells them that glee is not over. He attempts to bring them back together.

And how can you forget that SAM AND BRITTANY ARE TOGETHER! Nobody can say that they didn’t see it coming. It was definitely foretold. They are perfect for each other. I wonder what the hot lesbians are going to say since that was Brittanys worry.

Rachel sings an amazing song at showcase called “Being Good Isn’t Good Enough.” Despite her beautiful dress, she rocked her song. She sang so beautiful and stunned many people in the crowd that she was asked for a encore. To Kurt suprise, he was also asked to perform as if it was an audition. He was nervous but he rocked it enough to get ACCEPTED!

Something about the showcase made Rachel call Finn and remind him why Glee is so wonderful. She also announced how she won. Finn then emailed the Glee club to reunite and remind them why they joined Glee in the first place.

My highlight of the episode was Rachel singing. The other parts were just accessories.

Elmo Drama

11 Dec

This poor man can’t catch a break. Who knows if he really is a sexual offender but its like a rippling effect. Once one person succeeds at filling a lawsuit, everybody wants a piece of that. This lawsuit is the fourth one for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo. Seems like Sesame Street is more like Drama Street.

by Natalie Finn

Kevin Clash has been hit with another lawsuit.

A fourth accuser has surfaced, claiming in court documents filed Monday in New York that he was “16 or 17” when he engaged in “sexual contact” with the former Sesame Street star, who puppeted Elmo for nearly 30 years before resigning last month.

As was the case with two previous lawsuits and another man who came forward and then recanted his accusations, Clash’s attorney, Michael Berger, denies the plaintiff’s allegations, telling E! News that today’s suit is “without merit” and they will “vigorously defend the case and Mr. Clash’s reputation.”

The plaintiff, identified only as S.M. and then referred to as John Doe throughout the suit, alleges that he met Clash in Miami Beach in late 1995 or early 1996 and the puppeteer befriended him, after which the two stayed in contact when Clash returned to his home in New York.

The suit contends that Clash, over the phone, enticed John Doe to visit him with promises of a plane ticket, cash and a place to stay, as well as the promise of “being a ‘dad’ to him.”

When the plaintiff ultimately visited Clash in early 1996, the suit continues, he and the now-52-year-old Clash “had sexual contact on multiple occasions,” including sodomy and oral sex, in the older man’s apartment. John claims that he didn’t know Clash was the voice of Elmo until he visited him in New York.

Claiming that he suffered “severe injuries, including but no limited to mental, personal and psychological trauma” that is “continuing and permanent,” John is asking for at least $75,000 in damages.

Being a “compliant victim,” his client was not aware of the full extent of his injuries until this year, attorney Jeff Herman alleges in the complaint.

Herman, who’s representing all three of Clash’s accusers who are seeking damages, said in a statement that, in addition to coercing and enticing his client to engage in sexual activity, Clash “knowingly paid to transport a minor across state lines for the purpose of satisying his sexual interests.”

A Islamic Legal Model: Pakistan

11 Dec

The basic tenets of Islamic Law are primordial belief, Tawhid, the Five Pillars, and the Prophet Mohammad. Mohammad is the father of Islam and believed to be the last messenger sent by god. He wrote the words spoken to him by God in a Quran. He also wrote Sunnah and Hadith which is the actual text. The Five Pillars are acts of worships such as Shahada, Salat, Ramadan Fest, Zakat and Hajj. Tawhid is the belief that there is only one unique god and not composed of different parts. Law is not made but revealed by god, not all from Mohammed. It is what god says it is. The Muslim jurists explain the law but it isn’t law. Islamic law is also called Shariah which translates to way or path, and it is completed in the Quran but made clear in the Sunnah and Hadith. Figh is the human interpretation of law. Its fundamental principal is the individuals take personal responsibility, presumption of innocence and penalization of semblance of doubt. Islamic law rejects the traditional approach that family is responsible for individuals’ actions. The penalization of semblance of doubt is any doubt for an individual not to be punished.

Pakistan is an Islamic legal country. In 1973, they created a democratic document that decided steps should be taken to enable the Muslims of Pakistan to order their lives in accordance with the fundamental principles and basic concept of Islam and to provide facilities and be able to understand the meaning of life according to the Quran and Sunnah. The Islamic law consists of Hudud laws which are crimes against god. They have fixed punishment such as hand amputation, lashing, and stoning. Examples of this crime are unlawful intercourse, false accusation of unlawful intercourse, drinking wine, theft, and highway robbery. Pakistan does have Hudud law but there is a conflict in deciding if these are teachings or should be penalties. In February 1979, the Prime Minister issued new Hudud laws that allowed the following to be punished by stoning: rape, adultery and carnal knowledge of a virgin. The first theft gets a citizen amputated of their right hand and consumption of alcohol gets you 80 lashes. The previously mentioned definitely shows the Islamic criminal goal of deterrence by prescribing hard punishments. Pakistan tribal areas still follow the traditional Islamic law. Stoning and amputation is often used in the tribal area. Death penalty for Taz’ir crimes are convicted by the judge just like the traditional Islamic law.

Judge V. Prime Minister

11 Dec

Judge Miranda Todorova filed a libel suit against Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, for saying defamatory and untrue allegations about her work and lost because of unfit evidence. Therefore she appealed the acquittal. This is similar to U.S. because you can also file for a libel suit if it’s harmful to be person. Bulgaria also gives the right to appeal a case just like the United States.
Judge Miranda Todorova is a judge at the Sofia City Court therefore the trial was changed from the Sofia Regional Court to the Plovdiv Regional Court by order of the high court of Supreme Court of Cassation. The Supreme Court of Cassations is responsible for the appeal of civil and criminal cases.

A well-known Bulgarian judge, who is a harsh government critic, has appealed the acquittal of the country’s interior minister in a high-profile libel trial.

The appeal has been filed by Miroslava Todorova’s lawyer – Daniela Dokovska.

The Plovdiv Regional Court acquitted October 18 Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, in the libel case initiated by Miroslava Todorova, Chair of the Bulgarian Judges Association (BJA).

Todorova was obliged to pay the Court fee in the amount of BGN 500.

Miroslava Todorova, a judge at the Sofia City Court (SCC), filed a libel lawsuit against the Minister with the Sofia Regional Court on February 6 2012.

The step was triggered by two consecutive interviews of the Interior Minister in which he accused her of incompetence and of patronizing organized crime because of the delayed presentation of the written motives to an eight-year jail sentence handed down to drug lord Vasil Manikatov.

Todorova insisted that Tsvetanov had voiced untrue and defamatory allegations about her work as a judge and as BJA Chair.

It emerged later that at the time Manikatov received the 8-year jail sentence from Todorova, he was supposed to be behind bars for another crime, which is what she says made her think it would be permissible to delay writing her motives.

Meanwhile, the prisoner was released on parole, and since Todorova’s verdict was not effective, he remained at large, which became the grounds of Tsvetanov’s accusations.

Both Tsvetanov and Todorova did not appear in person for either of the Court sessions.

The material presented by private TV station bTV proved to be “technically unfit”, which prevented the expert witness from preparing a phonoscope analysis.

Todorova was not seeking a monetary award and if the Interior Minister was found guilty, he would have been penalized with a public reprimand and a fine of BGN 5000-15000 which will go into the State coffers.

The proceedings were ordered relocated to the Plovdiv-based court by the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) due to the fact that Todorova is a judge at the Sofia City Court.

Psy: Gangdam Style Update

11 Dec

A few months ago, Gangdamn Style was the beginning of the craze. This Korean rapper took the world by suprise with his tacky dance moves and cheesy song. Many intrepratations of this song have been on the craze.

My favorite one is the mexican style named “Ganga Style” by Don Cheto. It is a parody using the Mexican cartel as its influence. It shows the Mexican Gang life. Oh and its in spanish.

Glee also had its own version of Gangdam Style. Although, I personally did not like their version due to the fact that Marley fainted and lost sectionals for the New Directions during this song. It just ruined it for me. But Thina sang it pretty legit for an American Asian.

Trouble is headed of Psy. It has been discovered that he was once a protestor for America. It makes the nation wonder. Is he planning to control us with his cheesy dance moves than do a terrorist attack? Is it worth the risk? Some people dont think so, as they have asked to ban this music in the nation.

Women Violence in Afghanistan

11 Dec

Womans rights are something to be proud to have in America. It is something that is recent but it is essential to many woman. Countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan should show us how to value our freedom in America. Here is a story about how violence on women appears to be on the rise in Afghanistan.

(Reporting by Rafiq Shirzad, writing by Amie Ferris-Rotman, Editing by Jonathan Thatcher)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan (Reuters) – Unknown gunmen shot dead a senior female government worker on Monday, officials in eastern Afghanistan said, five months after her predecessor was killed in a bomb attack.

Violence against women appears to be on the rise in Afghanistan, which activists and some lawmakers blame on what they say is waning interest in women’s rights on the part of President Hamid Karzai’s government, claims he denies.

Nadia Sediqqi, acting head of the women’s affairs department in Laghman province, was killed as she headed to work in the capital Mehtar Lam, said the provincial governor’s spokesman Sarhadi Zwak.

“They shot her as she was getting into a rickshaw,” Zwak said of the attack about 150 km (93 miles) east of Kabul, adding that she worked without bodyguards — a common situation for female government workers.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Afghan women have won back basic rights in education, voting and employment since the Taliban were ousted from power in 2001, but fears are mounting that such freedoms could be traded away as Kabul seeks peace talks with the group.

Sediqqi had replaced Hanifa Safi, who was killed in July by a car bomb that her family blamed on the Taliban.

Women who pursue careers in ultra-conservative Afghanistan often face opposition in a society where often they are ostracized, or worse, for mixing with men other than husbands or relatives.

Safi’s son later told Reuters that authorities had ignored repeated requests for protection, echoing greater concerns that the safety of female government workers is not taken seriously by Kabul, despite commitments to better the rights of women 11 years into the NATO-led war.
